Kids are not all alike, and by extension don’t all learn alike. Yet schools tend to teach in one way. A neuropsychological evaluation can help your child with a personally-trailored way to learn and study. Just as adults choose different professions based on their cognitive strengths and interests, so too, kids should study in the way that is most suited to their unique cognitive style. The most important gift you can give your child is knowing their unique learning style. Arm them with the knowledge. Maximize their potential.
Dr. Alterescu offers a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation with no obligation.
Preparing your child for testing sessions:
Please try to ensure that your child gets a good night’s sleep and has breakfast before the testing session. If your child wears glasses or uses any other assistive device, please be sure to bring those to each testing session.
How to discuss the evaluation with your child:
Many children are initially nervous about coming to a psychologist for an evaluation. However, most kids are reassured about the process when it is explained by their parents in the following way: Dr. Alterescu will meet with you at her office and most of what you do together will feel like games and activities. You will look at pictures, play with blocks, and answer questions. Kids love to come to sessions and usually have a lot of fun. Everything you tell Dr. Alterescu will be private and she cannot tell anyone outside of the family anything you say. Most importantly children will typically embrace the evaluation when they are told that Dr. Alterescu’s primary goal is to help them be the best they can be.
